Venezuela’s Democracy and its Neighbours

By Dr Shahid Qureshi   : –

Venezuela has world’s biggest oil reserves but because it is on the other side of the US’s greedy bankers and Shylocks therefore it is criticised for everything goes wrong in the world. That is the US policy of demonization with controlled media and psychological warfare. Like in Hollywood movies we have seen shift in bashing so called international enemies of peace from old USSR to North Korea, to Iraq and Libya. Hollywood is part of the imperialist empire and propaganda.

Countries where US cannot intervene directly it destabilize the neighbours of those countries for example Pakistan is suffering due to US policy in Afghanistan, Iran Suffering due to the US policy in neighbouring Afghanistan and Iraq, Turkey is suffering due to the policy in Iraq and Syria, Saudi Arabia is suffering due to the US policy in Yemen.  The conclusion is Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are overwhelmed with attacks on the economy, security, terrorism and large number of refugees.

Venezuela has similar kind of issues on the one hand it has 2000 KM border with Columbia to manage but on the other hand it has approximately 4 million migrants on its soil to manage due to corrupt system of government and law and order situation in Columbia.

Few months ago I asked H.E. Nestor Orsorio, Colombian Ambassador to United Kingdom in House of Lords at ABC Columbia event: “How are you controlling your banks as corruption cannot exist without the collusion of the bankers”? I told the ambassador that by having a high denomination currency you are fueling corruption as well as inflation in your country. I told him that Venezuelans and also Britain have been able to keep it down by using small denominations of 100 and 50 notes. Well if they don’t control the inflation and flow of currency soon they have to abandon their own currency like Ecuador who is using US$ as national currency and in Afghanistan too most trade and daily business is happening in US$ and other currencies.

In the above situation Venezuela definitely need help from its neighbours and expect them to do their share of work. The drug trade and smuggling of cheap oil and food items to Columbia is fueling gangs, drug barons, prostitution rings and terrorism.

The elections are due to be held on 6th December 2015 and chances of the sitting President Nicolas Maduro and his ruling United Socialist Party to win are most probable.  Obviously major challenge whoever win the elections would be economy and if he is wise enough, he will not rely on the oil prices and its casino pricing mechanisms but on construction industry and exchange of oil with goods. The old barter system with china and others might help to keep the ‘Shylock’s’ away.
