By Dr Shahid Qureshi:
An Ankara in court in Turkey has sentenced a Turkish man to 22 and a half years in prison for smearing oil paint on busts of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. According to press reports, 30-year-old Murat Vural this year on five occasions tipped paint on busts of Turkey’s founding father in an Ankara suburb reported MARK BEUNDERMAN on 4. NOV 2005 in EU Observer.
However, In Pakistan captain (Rtd) Safdar Awan was released on bail same day by the court and now Sind Police has dropped all the charges against the unruly mob of the PML-N leaders Maryam Nawaz, Safdar Awan and others as if nothing happened.
On the other hand the army officers on duty who woke up the Inspector General Sind Police in the early hours to inform him about the severity of the situation are now facing Court of Enquiry and removed from their positions pending further investigations by the GHQ (General Headquarters). This is not how you deal with the Mafias and hardcore criminals in police uniform. However, there is no ham in thinking ‘out of box’ and taking extra ordinary measures in extra ordinary circumstances as allowed by the US Supreme Court during the war against criminals and terrorists.
On 18th October 2020, a mob of PML-N workers entered at the Mausoleum of the Mohammad Ali Jinnah aka Quaid-e-Azam ‘Father of the Nation’ lead by Maryam Nawaz and her domesticated and salaried husband. The unruly and desecrating scenes were broadcast on all TV channels that hurt the feelings of millions including myself sitting in London.
Although the Mausoleum is protected by law and there is a punishment for desecration or damage. It was expected that Sind Police would have registered a case (FIR) against the culprits automatically and immediately without waiting for someone. Although a citizen made an application to the police but Sind Inspector General evidently did not allow case to be registered against the culprits i.e. Maryam Nawaz Safdar and Safdar Awan & Co in the night but he was arrested in the morning from his hotel room and taken to the police station like a VIP. There were no scenes of forced entry or mishandling of the VIP criminal to his room as CCTV footage of the hotel showed. He was arrested by the Sind police and not Rangers or military.
As a political party PML-N is famous for breaking rules of decency and fair play and they usually get away with this disorderly behavior. They attacked the Supreme Court of Pakistan. PML-N government’s ‘Punjab Police’ lead by Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif killed 14 unarmed civilians in broad day light in Model Town Lahore with no outcome of the case yet. They got away with billions of national wealth and murders of innocent citizens.

The desecration and attack on the Mausoleum were upsetting to all but inaction of the Sind Police was even more upsetting. Having seen this apparent collusion and criminal negligence of the Sind Police officials with culprits and ignoring the fact that there was a desecration of the Mausoleum of The Father of the Nation, some officers from the armed forces on duty approached the IG Police at his official residence at the early hours ‘probably to wake him up’ and brought his attention to the severity of the situation. These soldiers see the photo of the father of the nation in every office they work and salute him every morning and evening at his Mausoleum as they are on the guard duty too.
So much so the police officers threatened to go on ‘leave’ as why their boss IG was disturbed in the early hours of the morning. This police is definitely incapable of protecting the city and life of the people, that’s why Rangers is deployed in Karachi for over 30 years. It seems Sind Police is not more than a ‘bitch of the rich’ full of criminals and land mafia agents. Those police officers who threatened to go on strike should be immediately dismissed.
On the other hand the army officers on duty who woke up the IG Police Sind in the early hours to inform him about the severity of the situation are now facing Court of Enquiry and removed from their positions pending further investigations by the GHQ (General Headquarters).
Military is incapable of dealing with criminals and Mafias like Sharifs and Zaradri as they are not trained in this. However, there is no ham in thinking ‘out of box’ and taking extra ordinary measures in extra ordinary circumstances as allowed by the US Supreme Court during the war.
