Saudi King phones world leaders over Israeli escalation at Al-Aqsa Mosque

(JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Sept 17 (KUNA) — Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Wednesday initiated phone calls with UN Secretary-General Bank Ki-moon, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin to condemn the repeated Israeli incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque.

During the conversations, King Salman stressed the need of serious and urgent measures by the UN and the three world major powers to stop the Israeli violation of the sanctity of the Muslims’ third holiest site and the aggressions against the Palestinian people’s rights, SPA reported tonight.

He stated that the Israeli violations foment religious extremism and violence in the Middle East at the world at large, according to the report.

He also discussed the issue in similar calls with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. (end)
