PM call with President Obama

(London Post) David Cameron spoke to President Obama about the historic Iran nuclear deal and the UK’s commitment to spend 2% of its GDP on defence.

A Number 10 spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister spoke to President Obama this afternoon about the historic deal reached in Vienna with Iran on the nuclear programme . Both leaders thanked each other for the leadership and work of their teams which had been critical to a successful outcome. They agreed that this deal would ensure that Iran is unable to develop a nuclear weapon, making the world a safer place. They noted that differences would remain with the regime in Tehran over its role in the region and both the UK and US would continue to work with partners in the region to bring about stability.

President Obama also welcomed the Prime Minister’s commitment to continue to meet the 2% NATO target every year for the rest of this decade. He said this was a significant signal from their primary partner on the world stage.

The leaders also discussed ongoing efforts to defeat ISIL in Iraq and Syria and work with regional partners.
