(Pakistan’s) “Large Population with Large Territory is Status of Power” – CIA Deputy Director Ray S. Cline

By Dr Shahid Qureshi: –

Pakistan’s Human capital (population) is a strength of the nation. It needs to stop corruption, build up health, education and infrastructure. Pakistan’s per kilometre density of population is very low due to the large area and it has resources and potential to become world power. I am failing to understand why Supreme Court of Pakistan would hold a seminar on the population control in Pakistan and prime minister will sit as chief guest?  United States agency CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) have done a deep analysis and research about population growth in Pakistan.

That is why “Ray S. Cline former Deputy Director of Intelligence at CIA said in a book, “The Power of the Nations in the 1990s’, ‘that a large territory accompanied by a large population, almost automatically confers the status of power on a nation.’ But political analysis, he added, ‘generally gives little more importance to people than to territory, since populous countries of an adequate size can exploit economic resources, mobilise armies, and bring their influence on others”.

According to a secret intelligence assessment prepared by the CIA in February 1984: “Middle East – South Asia: Population Problems and Political Stability’, worried about age structures in societies with high fertility. Noting that as many as one-third of regional population is in the ‘political volatile 15 to 24 age group, ‘the document which was partially declassified in 1986, warned that young people are ‘ready recruits for opposition causes’, including Islamic nationalism, ‘which currently offers the principal ideological haven for Muslim youth”.

According to political experts the growth in population is a distinct advantage in the modern world. Geoffrey McNicoll of the population council explained in a November 1985 conference on global population trends at Stanford University – California that, “population weight conveys power or voice in world affairs”.

I think population and human resource development is a very important and sensitive matter and should be discussed by experts. Surely Chief Justice of Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan and mullah Tariq Jameel are not the experts in human resource development and security of the nation. The drive against corruption by Chief Justice of Supreme Court is highly commendable but without the supporting institution’s capacity building mafias will destroy the drive. Mullah Tariq Jameel and others should talk about ‘corruption control’ more in their speeches as people are now thinking religion and corruption can go side by side like rail tracks. No?

It seems holding a seminar on the population control in Supreme Court of Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan sitting in as chief guest was a great spin and distraction from the real issues i.e. development of health, education, electricity and farming facilities.

I believe that is another spin by the corrupt enemy agents in the Pakistani dual national bureaucracy, as for past 17 years they built a narrative that: ‘Madrassas are the major threat to the state of Pakistan and that suited the hostile intelligence agencies. All media and security institutions were running after poor students and uneducated Mullahs and at the same land Mafias of Bahria Town, Eden Garden and over 77 schemes in Gawadar were looting the nation with both hands. No?

In realty two non-religious Pakistani terrorist groups MQM (Mutahida Qumi Movement) and PPP’s (Al-Zulifqar) have killed over 30,000 innocent civilians and damaged Billions of dollars to the economy and infrastructures of Pakistan but no one is talking about it. I don’t know if the people in the security establishment are aware with this fact?

Pakistani politicians, media, bureaucracy and some elements in security establishment have facilitated that research by providing biometric data of FATA and Azad Kashmir. They installed a border control system in Pakistan which India refused as manufacturer did not give them configuration codes.

“Treachery is Pakistan’s number one problem”, I said on BBC few years ago. That was based on my own research into the various areas of the society i.e. ‘how corruption has infected the very spine of the state apparatus and this increase in corruption was designed and deliberately promoted by the enemy agencies.

Indian RAW chief said about Pakistanis: “why kill them when you can make them corrupt”. That is why Indians invested billions into ‘anti Kalabagh Dam’ politicians, lobbies and concerned civil servants.

Finally for those who care and understand in Pakistan, according to Stanford University, California research:

“Population weight conveys power or voice in world affairs”.
