Oil fields in Syria must be under the control of the Syrian State: Lavrov

YEREVAN, (ST)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reaffirmed that the oil fields in Syria must be under the control of the Syrian state, pointing out that Washington’s attempts to control these fields are illegal and they hinder reaching political solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a press conference with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan in Yerevan on Monday, Lavrov said that the US illegal attempts to control Syria’s oil fields impede political settlement in the country and form an additional source of threat.

The Russian top diplomat added that Moscow affirmed the need for the Syrian state to establish its control over all its territory including over the oil fields as soon as possible. Moscow also supports the complete elimination of terrorism and the attainment of a political solution to the crisis in the country, he pointed out .

Washington tries to continue playing its colonialist role in Syria and the region at both political and military levels through its forces which keep stealing and looting the Syrian oil. Recently, the Russian Defense Ministry published images for convoys of oil tank trucks convoys smuggling Syrian oil under the protection of the US military servicemen.
