Murder Accused of The London Post Web Editor Faisal Qureshi Acquitted

(By Special Correspondent- Lahore): On 12th April 2016 a Pakistani Court of Additional Session Judge Shazaib Saeed Acquitted Faisal Hameed from the charges of murdering young promising journalist Faisal Qureshi based in Lahore. Faisal Qureshi was murdered in October 2011 and FIR case no: 762 – 07/10/2011 under section 302, 34 PPC was registered against the unknown assailants at Johar Town Police Station.

Faisal Qureshi was receiving threats from the terrorist group MQM-A and others. The SSP Umar Virk of CIA police in Lahore presented Faisal Hamid in front of the press and media in December 2011 where he confessed murdering Faisal Qureshi on his own but crime scene suggested there were more people involved in this murder. The accused confessed in front of media but pleaded not guilty in the court. The family always maintained that a group of target killers were involved and he might have been an accomplice in the crime to gain access.

On 15th October 2011, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) official Pakistani news agency reported that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani said: “Faisal Qureshi Martyred for Reporting on Sensitive Issues”.

At that time Zulifqar Mirza powerful former Home minister of Sindh province accused MQM-A of the murder of The London Post journalist Faisal Qureshi. While talking in a live program on Dunya TV channel with famous host Mehar Bukhari Zulifqar.  Earlier he called Dr Shahid Qureshi editor of The London Post on the phone from Karachi and gave his condolences. He assured support in tracing the killers. He asked for the updates of the case.  Mian Aslam senior journalist of ARY TV News, close family friend send updates to Zulifqar Mirza. He later reported that the government agencies started following him and also taping his phone.

On Monday February 27th, 2012, WikiLeaks began publishing The Global Intelligence Files, over five million e-mails from the Texas headquartered “global intelligence” company Stratfor. The e-mails date between July 2004 and late December 2011. They reveal the inner workings of a company that fronts as an intelligence publisher, but provides confidential intelligence services to large corporations, such as Bhopal’s Dow Chemical Co., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and government agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Marines and the US Defence Intelligence Agency. The emails show Stratfor’s web of informers, pay-off structure, payment laundering techniques and psychological methods.


British prestigious newspaper The Guardian mentioned Faisal Qureshi among killed on duty on 3 November 2014.

Journalist Organisations like RSF based in France and CPJ in New York, PJA in London and British Council strongly condemned the brutal murder of London Post Journalist Faisal Qureshi in Lahore.

British Parliamentarian Lord Nazir Ahmed expressed his sadness over the acquittal of the accused at the same time he demanded the arrests of the real killers of the young journalist Faisal Qureshi. He stated: I am happy to support on this issue.  He was talking to Dr Shahid Qureshi, Chief Editor of The London Post in London.

Asad Mirza a prominent crime reporter based in Lahore said: This is usual practice of corrupt and incompetent Panjab Police which supports the criminals more. How is it possible that CIA police charged someone without appropriate evidence and full investigations?

Dr Shahid Qureshi demanded from Shabaz Sharif Chief Minister Punjab and Chaudhry Nisar Ali powerful interior minister the full re-investigation of murder of his brother and also Web Editor of The London Post by a JIT (Joint Investigation Team) as it is a terrorist attack on his family member and a young journalist Faisal Qureshi, web editor of The London Post.
