Minister for Africa visits Mozambique

(London Post) Minister for Africa visit to Mozambique focuses on trade, prosperity and supporting peace and reconciliation.

Minister for Africa, James Duddridge, visited Mozambique on 19-20 May on his first visit overseas since being reappointed as an FCO Minister.

As part of a full programme he met with Foreign Minister Baloi to discuss the evolving UK-Mozambique partnership, particularly our developing economic and commercial ties. Mr Duddridge also emphasised the importance of political stability and inclusiveness to Mozambique’s continued growth and development.

Mr Duddridge was able to explore the UK’s growing economic ties with Mozambique, one of the UK’s five African High Level Prosperity Partners, during a visit to a subsidiary of FTSE 100 listed company SAB Miller and in meetings with British business. Mr Duddridge also met Governor Gove of the Bank of Mozambique to discuss the importance of an open and efficient business environment in attracting overseas investment.

At the end of his visit Mr Duddridge commented:

I was delighted to make Mozambique my first overseas visit since my reappointment as Minister for Africa. This is a young and vibrant country with an incredibly bright future. Mozambique’s dynamism and potential is the reason it was chosen as one of the UK’s five High Level Prosperity Partners in Africa. I’m keen to encourage more British businesses to invest in Mozambique and we will be working closely with the Government of Mozambique to create the free and open business environment to make that possible. I’m proud that the UK and Mozambique have such an enduring relationship and look forward to it going from strength to strength in the future.
