French President urges European leaders to protect borders, improve security

BRATISLAVA,   (Xinhua) — French President Francois Hollande on Friday urged European leaders to address issues including border protection, security, economic development and the future of youth.

Protecting European Union‘s borders, security, economic development and the future of youth are the priorities that must be tackled by the bloc, Hollande said after an informal EU summit here.

He called for strengthening the protection of the EU’s external borders. He said he wanted to control the influx of migrants, while at the same time offer assistance to those who are entitled to asylum.

“We promised more help for the member states that are affected the most by migrant flows – notably Greece, Italy and Hungary,” stressed Hollande.

Regarding security, the French president appealed to European leaders to realize their responsibility and strengthen the fight against terrorism.
