Poor Demi Lovato! The Heart Attack hitmaker has had to put the recording of her new album on hold after contracting a painful lung infection which is so severe it left the star struggling to breathe yesterday (Feb. 24).

Those around the star grew increasingly concerned when the 22-year-old began fighting for breath on Tuesday, prompting them to rush the star to the nearby Providence Tarzana Medical Center where she was diagnosed with a serious lung infection, brought on by flu-related symptoms.

After performing a series of tests on Lovato, doctors prescribed the star medication, including a Z-Pak, a drug used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. According to TMZ, Demi remained in hospital throughout the day, and it is not yet known if the star has returned home. The singer is yet to address the concerning news.

The timing will no doubt have annoyed the former Disney star as she had reportedly booked studio time with a big producer on the same day, but was forced to cancel.

The star has already received a ton of well-wishes from worried fans on Twitter. Demi’s ‘Lovatics’, as she calls them, have already started the hashtag “Get Well Soon Demi” and expressed their heartbreak on the social network. “Get well soon, I love you so much,” one user wrote, while another tweeted: “I died inside when I saw that she was rushed to hospital #GetWellSoonDemi”.

The kind tweets will no doubt cheer the star up after she recently hit out at the amount of hate she received on the site. “Too many haters on Twitter these days. This generation needs to learn how to love a little,” the star wrote on Sunday.

We’re sure Demi’s long-time boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama will be looking after his poorly partner as she recovers from the nasty infection. The That 70’s Show alum recently hinted that he was planning to propose to his girlfriend, though denied that they’re already engaged. “We’re not engaged,” he told E! News last week. “But it’s something that I definitely look forward to in the future. We’ll see.” He added: “You know, who knows?”

Demi has previously shared that her boyfriend — who she has been on-and-off with for almost five years — is always looking out for her, and is extremely caring. “To the funniest, most inspiring, incredible man I know,” she tweeted of her beau last year. “@WValderrama- thank you for helping me get through my darkest moments… You truly are a light to this world and my life.” Aww!
