BT sorry after internet problems

BT have faced a Twitter storm after customers complained that they were experiencing internet connection problems.

The company, which provides broadband to seven million UK subscribers, said it was unable to say how many customers had been affected.

But after Twitter users from across the country said they could not access major websites – including Facebook, eBay, and Amazon – the firm commented on their official Twitter page.

The post, by the @BTCare handle, said: “Sorry about the issues many of you had accessing the internet this morning.

“Problem is now fixed – sorry for any trouble caused.”

BT added that its own website and phone apps had also been plagued with problems earlier in the day, but were now working.

A BT spokeswoman said: “There were problems with our broadband service earlier today but they were resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

John Spiers, from Oxfordshire, tweeted about BT’s technical help team. He posted: “T he whole DNS service of BT goes down for 12 hours and their technical help wants to blame my equipment! T he fact that you don’t acknowledge that it was a BT nationwide problem is excruciating!”

Dave Houston, another customer from Northern Ireland, said on Twitter: “All morning spent trying to figure why my internet was playing up, just to find it was all on BT’s end!”

But broadband user Jennie Macfie put the free time to good use, posting: “A Twitter free morning thanks to BT internet foulup. Used time for brisk walk to village to stock up at the little farm shop.”
