World Cup 2014: Neymar gives Brazil lift off

Neymar celebrates after his first goal against Croatia

Hosts kick-off World Cup with 3-1 victory over Croatia in Sao Paulo.

MATCH SUMMARY

A few brave souls predicted the Croatians could topple Brazil but it wasn’t to be as Neymar’s brace and Oscar’s late third wrapped up a 3-1 win for the hosts. Brazil were lucky with the penalty award for their second goal after Fred took an outrageous dive while Croatia were justifiably outraged to have a legitimate goal chalked off. Improvement required from Scolari’s boys.

GOAL OF THE DAY

Neymar may have stolen the headlines but Oscar’s third for Brazil in injury time was the pick of the bunch, surging from halfway before delivering the coup de grace with a clinical finish with the outside of the boot.
