Uzbekistan Aiming for Stronger Ties with UK: Senator Safaev

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United Kingdom H.E. Alisher Kurmanov hosted a pre-UBTIC meeting for the British companies planning to attend upcoming UBTIC session in Tashkent and those interested in exploring new business opportunities in Uzbekistan which took place on at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Senator Safaev who was on official visit to the UK. H.E. Senator Safaev informed meeting participants about current stage of sustainable national development of Uzbekistan, continuing political modernization and democratic reforms as well as immutability of the country’s foreign policy. In addition, representatives of the UK business circles were informed about macroeconomic indicators, economic priorities and latest decisions made by the Government of Uzbekistan in order to improve the investment climate and conditions for doing business.

UBTIC Co-Chair from the British side Dame Barbara Hay DCMG LVO MBE, who also attended the meeting, started her speech by offering her condolences on the death of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Islam Karimov. In her address to the British companies she mentioned the existing potential and new opportunities for doing business in various industries in Uzbekistan. Dame Barbara Hay DCMG LVO MBE also highlighted the fact that British Council has been operating for over 20 years now which indicates that the country brings up well educated, culturally developed and motivated young people. She concluded her speech by expressing a hope that the upcoming UBTIC session which has been scheduled for 17 November 2016 will draw as much interest from the British companies as the last year’s UBTIC session which took place in London last November did.

The meeting gathered representatives of around 30 British companies who had an opportunity to find out more about the Uzbek market, exchange their ideas and suggestions as well as to share their experience with each other during a networking buffet with tradition Uzbek dishes which took place following the formal part of the meeting.
