(London Post) After signing a multi-year deal last year for exclusive video content, the social media giant has secured rights to NFL’s Thursday Night Football. Facebook, according to reports, were also in contention.
Reports earlier in the week claimed Facebook and Yahoo were among those who had dropped out of the running following private discussions. Twitter, whose shares were up about 4 percent premarket trading, agreed a partnership with the NFL last year to provide exclusive video content for fans on a daily basis throughout the season.
“This is about transforming the fan experience with football. People watch NFL games with Twitter today,” Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said in a company statement.
“Twitter is where live events unfold and is the right partner for the NFL as we take the latest step in serving fans around the world live NFL football,” Goodell said in a statement on the NFL’s official website.
“There is a massive amount of NFL-related conversation happening on Twitter during our games and tapping into that audience, in addition to our viewers on broadcast and cable, will ensure Thursday Night Football is seen on an unprecedented number of platforms this season.”
