Tajikistan Supports Peaceful Solution of Korean Crisis

(By our Reporter – PR): – In his address at the general debate of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon highlighted the central and coordinating role of the United Nations in developing and implementing timely measures to resolve conflicts and risings tensions in the world.

He has underlined the importance of effective use of preventive diplomacy and mediation efforts and urged the international community to seek the solution of North Korea crisis in continuation of constructive negotiations within the framework of implementation of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

The reform of the UN has been declared one of the key issues in the agenda of the current session. In this regard, President of Tajikistan called for revitalization of comprehensive UN reform in accordance with the Charter of the Organization and including the Security Council. It was stressed that Tajikistan stands for proportionally fair representation in the Security Council namely for inclusion of the developing countries.

Like many other speakers of the session, President Rahmon has emphasized that today’s expansion of terrorism and extremism has reached planetary scale and poses a serious threat to all countries. Noting that horrifying terroristic attacks that we are witnessing in different parts of the world have nothing in common with the bright religion of Islam. On the contrary, they contradict the moral requirements, values of tolerance and humanism of Islam.

He underscored, that the Government of Tajikistan together with its partners and international organizations, especially with relevant UN agencies, continues to consistently take concrete steps to combat modern challenges and threats, preserve lasting peace and stability in the country.

In his address, President of Tajikistan expressed his concern on political and economic situation in neighbouring Afghanistan. He called on the international community to provide Afghanistan with targeted assistance and support in reviving its socio-economic life, developing its transport and communication infrastructure. The connection of the transport routes, the implementation of power transmission line construction projects, including the CASA-1000 project, development of cross-border cooperation was named among top priorities in relationship of the two countries.

Recently, Tajikistan has ratified and completed the accession process to the Paris Agreement. Speaking about Tajikistan’s environmental policy, adaptation to the climate change and reduction of natural disasters risks, Emomali Rahmon suggested to strengthen mechanisms for providing comprehensive assistance to countries affected by natural disasters, and to this end, to create international and regional funds. He once again reaffirmed commitment of Tajikistan to global initiatives – “Sustainable Energy for All” and International Decade “Sustainable Energy for the Period to 2024”.

In conclusion, President Emomali Rahmon stated that Tajikistan will continue to make its feasible contribution within the UN water agenda. He recalled upon recent initiative of Tajikistan to conduct the high-level event held few days ago at the UN HQ on implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” aimed to promote the new decade and contribute to its successful implementation. He concluded by informing and inviting all relevant parties to take part in next year’s forum on Water for Sustainable Development Decade in New-York and High-Level International Conference in Dushanbe.
