A general’s strength lies in the willingness of a soldier to die on his orders when he is facing the enemy on the border. That is true for people with or without uniform. This strength comes from credibility and honor of the institution. When a solider turn his back to his friends, family, children, property and look towards the enemy on the border, he assumes and trust that the general and commander in chief siting back are going to protect his honor, dignity and property. That’s the trust which needs to be maintained and upheld. When a soldier reports a problem affecting his duties, he or she believes that: ‘General will find a solution. The soldier believes, ‘if my problem is important for the general, he will find a solution not an excuse’.
Soldering is a job which is so risky that no insurance company will do insurance easily and dying young is inevitable. In this situation credibility and trust need to be maintained up to the highest standards because that would be the ‘lifeline’ for the future recruits.
In recent history of Pakistan, we have seen how United States become hyper manic to get the release of CIA asset Raymond Davies from Pakistani prison and local asset Hussain Haqqani former Pakistan Ambassador to United States from Pakistan. Both were taken away in the highest speed.
For a country like USA these characters are not important as individuals but to keep the confidence and trust of the others around the world it was very important. People who join mafias knows that: ‘they will be protected and avenged if they die’. Their bosses will not leave their families in poverty and hunger while live in big villas themselves. In the time of difficulty never ask advice from a coward as he will always give an excuse instead of fighting.
Perhaps the Americans changed their policy after dumping assets in Afghanistan (translators and Hollywood Haq) and Vietnam as we see famous photo of helicopter on the roof of the US embassy.
British citizen Altaf Hussain, MQM – A leader’s recent arrest on ‘hate speech’ charges after over two years and later release on police bail last week suggests that this was all ‘hot air’. The asset is not going anywhere.
One more thing I told the Turks who took now US protected Fateullah Gulen’s free schools for their kids, who later joined Gulen terrorist network that: ‘if a product is free than you are the product’.
Zardari’s presidential nominee Altaf Hussain of MQM is a subject of the British Queen and he told MJ Akbar’s Indian newspaper ‘Asian Age’, “I was refused commission in Pakistan Army because I was a Mohajir”. So, Indians also recruited him with the others. That’s when asset went stray due to non-supervision and lack of continuity like Hussain Haqani.
Altaf Hussain and Hamid Karzai owe their lives and everything to the British and both have never hidden this fact in their feelings and expressions. Altaf Hussain followed the instructions like a humble servant.
Former Afghan President Karzai, was so honest with his feelings that he said to: “Major General John McCall the departing commander of the British forces in Afghanistan, “you deserve a lot, you could have been the president of this country (Afghanistan) for all the good work you have done”.
Well Karzai owed his life and title to the coalition forces especially British. In early November 2001 coalition forces picked up wounded Karzai from Urzugan province after his mission to incite revolt against Taliban failed.
Well British do look after their men unlike Americans and CIA in the case of Commander Abdul Haq, whom the Americans used to call ‘Hollywood Haq’.
In contrast to the British style of protecting assets ‘Commander Abdul Haq was left ‘hung high to dry’ by the CIA’, according to James Ritchie a Washington based businessman and friend of Haq. The Americans used to call him ‘Hollywood Haq’ and it appears they let him die a Hollywood martyrs. Instead of sending special forces to save future president Abdul Haq, the Americans sent a drone and he was killed by the Taliban. That made a huge dent to the reputation of the CIA and the Americans among the other agents working in various countries. Probably that was the reason US activated all resources in Pakistan to get Raymond Davies released. They even used Islamic Sharia Law of ‘Diyat’ (blood money) to get Raymond Davies released by coercing the victims family members to accept.
Raymond Davies wrote all in his book ‘The Contractor’, as how all and sundry in Pakistan, politicians, police, judges, generals, businessmen and lawyers played a role in his release apart from that he killed two Pakistanis on the road in broad day light in Lahore.
The long and short of this is that all the departments in the country need to review and reboot their system of asset management, supervision and hand over to the next generations.
As they say, ‘If it is important you will find a solution and not an excuse’.
