The NCA and the Metropolitan Police have today carried out a major operation against a suspected organised crime group in North London.

Six men, aged between 24 and 42, were arrested for offences including conspiracies to commit blackmail and assault which are believed to be linked to loan sharking and the extortion of businesses.

Around 250 officers were involved in the operation and 11 premises are currently being searched. The men are being interviewed at police stations across London.

Oliver Higgins, Branch Commander for the NCA, commented:

“These arrests are part of an on-going operation conducted by the National Crime Agency with the Metropolitan Police and Trading Standards colleagues. The scale of today’s activity shows how seriously law enforcement agencies take protecting the public from violent offending.

“We hope the arrests will help members of the diverse communities in London and further afield feel confident that they can report any concerns to their local police, be that about threats of violence or other criminal activity. You can also report crime anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”
