Pakistan’s Sharif Brothers Summoned to Saudi Arabia

L to R: Shabaz Sharif Chief Minister Punjab and disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif

By Dr Shahid Qureshi : –

In a mysterious development Shabaz Sharif chief minister of Punjab province of 120 million population was summoned in Saudi Arabia in a plane used by the Saudi intelligence. He was given a ride by a Suadi official from the runway.

After 36 hours his brother former disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif also jumped on a Saudi Air line commercial flight and have arrived in the capital Riyyad now.  He was received by Pakistani ambassador in Riyadd and no Saudi official was present.

Saudis who themselves have started an anti-corruption campaign are not in a position to defend the corruption of Sharifs especially after Qatari involvement in the corruption cases. Overrated contract of LNG signed by the Sharifs is another eyesore for both Pakistani security establishment and Saudis.

With regards to the Shabaz Sharif meeting with the Turkish Prime minister in the Holy Kabbah a source in Ankara close to the Turkish Prime Minster Bin Ali Yildrim confirmed to me that: “Prime minister’s visit was scheduled long before and it was linked to the Turkish – Saudi relations and crisis in Palestine after the statement of US president Donald Trump on Jerusalem”.

Sharifs are good at doing business with pleasure and making contacts for rainy day. However, Turks are very well aware with the corruption of the Sharif Brothers in Pakistan.

A hype was created in political circles of Pakistan as their going to be another ‘deal’ coming up.  Some analysts are also of the view that: “It is an effort to save ‘Assets’ Sharif brothers by the joint Indian-US syndicate via Saudis and off course UK’s nod in the back ground”.

Crimes of Sharifs are beyond corruption and looting of the state of Pakistan. Their illicit links with Indian agency and businesses as well as arrests of Raw agents from their sugar mills have made them threat to the national security.

“After the Panama Leaks investigation by the (JIT) Joint Investigation Team, ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan Sharifs have been involved in threatening the investigating officials, who did a great job”, said a security analyst.

It seems plausible that escalation of tensions on eastern and western border is linked with the saving of ‘assets’ Sharifs. It is reported that Sharifs have hired a lobby firm in Washington. Speculation aside it is important that Pakistan’s security establishment taking all threats from US and India very seriously.

After listening to the press conference of the military spokesman Gen. Asim Ghafoor last week and presentation by Army Chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa to the Senate of Pakistan, it seems Pakistanis have considered all the options as how to respond in case of attacks by the proxies of US and India in Afghanistan and/ or direct attack by USA or India inside Pakistan. It is also true that US has a mentally challenged man in the white house in the form of Donald Trump.  But I am sure people in Pentagon and State Department would never like their ‘mini pentagon’ US embassy in Islamabad raised to the ground and repeat of US embassy siege like in Tehran. It was the over confidence of various US administrations which created heart breaking scenes of evacuations of US officials in Vietnam and Tehran.

Obviously, Pakistan is a Nuclear State of 220 million people and is not Somalia, Syria or Iraq and I am afraid first thing going to happen is that all the glowing ‘foreign assets’ with properties and businesses abroad i.e. Sharifs, Zardaris and others might be eliminated as collaborators. These toxic assets have been following foreign agenda in undermining the state and armed forces of Pakistan.

Pakistanis have realised by now that they need leaders and politicians who are not corrupt and agents of foreign powers.

Pakistan must eliminate the inner enemy first before going after the external one.
