(London Post)   The US chocolate maker has announced a mass recall of some of its products, including Mars and Snickers bars, after a consumer complained that her chocolate bar had contained a piece of plastic.

Mars said in a statement Tuesday that the recall affected all sweets of the brand Mars and Snickers, as well as Milky Way Minis and Miniatures, and certain kinds of Celebrations confectionery boxes sold in France, Germany, Britain, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. All of the affected products would have a best before date from June 19 to January 8, 2017, and should not be consumed.

“We want to avoid having consumers who bought one of the (affected) products consume them,” Mars said in a statement on its German website.

Mars’s spokesman for Germany, Roul Hamacher, told the news agency DPA the bars had been produced in a factory in the Netherlands, and that the recall was the result of a complaint from a woman who had found a piece of plastic in a chocolate bar.

Hamacher didn’t disclose the total volume of the recall and the likely cost arising from it for the company. In its German factory at Viersen alone, Mars produces around 10 million snacks daily.
