BEIRUT, Lebanese authorities have released all of the activists who were detained during recent protests, local reports said on Wednesday.

The Lebanese Red Crescent had transported 21 wounded people to hospitals while dozens were treated on the spot during the protests held in the capital, Beirut, according to the state National News Agency.

The protests, organized by several civil society bodies, were held in protest of the government’s inability to get rid of accumulating waste as demands varied between accusations of corruption, calls for renewed elections and holding officials responsible accountable.

Dozens of the activists were arrested after they were accused of attacking security forces and causing anarchy, leading to another set of protests at downtown Beirut’s Riad Al Solh Square calling for their release.
