Drone loaded with drugs crashes near US-Mexico border

A small drone carrying three kilos of synthetic drugs crashed in a shopping center in Tijuana, Mexico — just hundreds of feet from the California border, police said.

The apparently remote-controlled drone apparently was brought down Wednesday by the weight of its cargo — six Scotch-taped packages attached to the wings, police said.

Municipal police chief Patricia Sida Silke told the local media that shopping center employees found the flying machine in the parking lot.

“When they approached it, they realized it was a drone piloted remotely from somewhere else,” she said.

Federal authorities have seized the aircraft and the drugs, but no arrests have been made so far.

Mexican drug traffickers have found imaginative ways in the past to smuggle drugs into the United States, including sophisticated tunnels under the border, catapults and even mini-submarines.
